About this exam

The Assistant Engineer Combined Competitive Examination is the Rajasthan Public Service Commission’s (RPSC) direct recruitment of Assistant Engineers for the state’s engineering services, made for the Department of Personnel under the Rajasthan State Engineering Services (Direct Recruitment by Combined Competitive Examination) Rules, 1991.

Advertisement 10/2024-25 (5 August 2024) offered 1,014 posts. Two corrigenda later added 45 more — 15 Civil and 7 Electrical posts in the Public Works Department, and 23 Civil posts in the Water Resources Department — taking the total to 1,059:

  • PHED, AEn (Civil): 365
  • PHED, AEn (Mechanical/Electrical): 101
  • PWD, AEn (Civil): 140
  • PWD, AEn (Electrical): 27
  • Water Resources, AEn (Civil): 179
  • Water Resources, AEn (Mechanical): 7
  • Panchayati Raj, AEn (Civil/Agriculture): 240

Eligibility. A B.E. in the branch of the post (Civil; Mechanical or Electrical; Electrical; Mechanical) or an equivalent recognised by the Government; for the Panchayati Raj posts, a degree in Civil or Agriculture Engineering. Every post also needs working knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari and knowledge of Rajasthani culture. Age was 21 to 40 years on 1 January 2025; because the posts had last been advertised in 2018, the advertisement gave three extra years on the upper limit, on top of the category relaxations it tabulates. The posts are at pay matrix level L-14.

Selection is by a competitive examination — an objective preliminary examination and a descriptive main examination — and an interview, with the merit list made from the main examination and interview marks together. Applications were open from 14 August to 15 September 2024 (extended from 12 September). The main examination was held on 22 and 23 March 2026.

The advertisement is at rpsc.rajasthan.gov.in.

Age is counted on 1 January 2025. The advertisement’s limit is 21–40, but the posts were last advertised in 2018 and the advertisement grants three more years to everyone over-age on that date, so the tool counts against 43. Category relaxations are for Rajasthan-domicile candidates only — a candidate from another state is treated as general. BC and MBC: choose OBC here. Women get more than shown (5 years for general-category women, 10 for Rajasthan-domicile reserved-category women), widows and divorcees have no upper limit, and the ex-servicemen and other provisions are in the advertisement; the relaxations do not add up, except that the 5 years for benchmark disability is granted on top. The degree must be in the branch of the post (Mechanical posts in PHED accept Mechanical or Electrical), and final-year candidates may apply but must show the degree before the main examination.

Rules read from RPSC Advertisement No. 10/2024-25 — Assistant Engineer Combined Competitive Exam 2024 on 2026-10-22.
