About this exam
“UP Junior Aided Teacher” is the name aspirants use for the selection of Headmasters and Assistant Teachers in Uttar Pradesh’s aided (अशासकीय सहायता प्राप्त) junior high schools. The 2021 examination was called the Junior High School Headmaster/Assistant Teacher Selection Examination 2021 (जूनियर हाई स्कूल प्रधानाध्यापक/सहायक अध्यापक चयन परीक्षा 2021), often shortened to JASE 2021.
It was conducted by the Examination Regulatory Authority, Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj, under the 2019 amendment to the U.P. recognised basic schools (junior high school) teachers’ recruitment rules of 1978, dated 4 December 2019, and a government order of 19 February 2021. The Authority’s notice said the examination counted for this recruitment only. Online registration ran from 3 to 17 March 2021, with the fee due by 18 March. The examination was held on 17 October 2021; the answer key came out on 22 October, objections were taken until 26 October, and the final key was issued on 10 November 2021.
The paper. Paper I (first session) had 150 multiple-choice questions of one mark each, in two and a half hours, with no negative marking. Part 1 was 50 questions of general knowledge for everyone; Part 2 was 100 questions in one subject the candidate chose: a language (Sanskrit, Hindi or English), Social Studies, or Science and Mathematics. The booklet was printed in Hindi and English, and the English version is authentic if the two differ.
Who could apply. A graduate with a recognised teacher training — a two-year diploma in elementary education, a B.Ed with at least 50 percent in graduation, D.El.Ed/BTC, a four-year B.El.Ed, a four-year integrated B.A./B.Sc. Ed, or a B.Ed (special education) — who had passed a Teacher Eligibility Test for the upper primary level (classes 6 to 8). The Headmaster post also needed five years’ teaching in a recognised junior high or upper primary school.
Since the U.P. Education Service Selection Commission Act, 2023, the selection of teachers for aided junior high schools is among the Commission’s duties.
