About this notification

The Staff Selection Commission has declared the final result of the Stenographer Grade C and D Examination, 2025. The result write-up is dated 25 August 2026 and lists 1715 candidates who have been provisionally recommended for posts in central ministries, departments and offices.

How the final list was prepared

The Commission first released the First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA) on 31 July 2026. Candidates then had to take part in the sliding and identity verification process at their Regional Office on 11 and 12 August 2026. Anyone who did not attend in person was treated as absent and left out of the final result.

At the sliding stage, 1055 candidates chose to fix their allocated post and 549 chose to float. Another 111 candidates received new allocations against the seats left by absent candidates, giving the total of 1715. Posts were allocated on merit together with each candidate’s post preferences and their fix or float choice.

Posts filled

  • Stenographer Grade C: 232 vacancies, 232 candidates recommended.
  • Stenographer Grade D: 1483 vacancies, 1483 candidates recommended.

Some horizontal reservations were not fully filled. In Grade D, for example, 106 vacancies were reported for ex-servicemen but only 6 ex-servicemen were recommended.

The write-up also gives, for every post code and category, the marks and date of birth of the last candidate selected. As an example, for Grade D post code D48 (Directorate of Income Tax Human Resource Development under the Central Board of Direct Taxes), 217 unreserved seats were filled and the last unreserved candidate scored 146.30351.

When candidates tied on total marks, the tie was broken first by marks in Part III (English Language and Comprehension), then by Part II (General Awareness), then by age with the older candidate placed higher, and finally by alphabetical order of name.

What happens next

  • Fresh ranks have been given in the final result and these replace the FRTA ranks.
  • Document verification and appointment formalities will be handled by the department each candidate has been allocated to, not by the Commission.
  • A candidate who hears nothing from the allocated department within six months of the result should contact that department directly.
  • Selection stays provisional until documents for educational qualification, category and other claims are verified. A claim that cannot be backed by certificates leads to cancellation.
  • No reserve or waiting list has been prepared. Unfilled posts and posts left by candidates who do not join will be carried forward to the next recruitment year.
  • The Commission said detailed marks of qualified and non-qualified candidates would be released on its website later.

The category-wise tables and the full list of department codes are in the official write-up.
