About this notification
The Railway Recruitment Boards’ Centralised Employment Notice No. 01/2026 invites applications for 11,127 Assistant Loco Pilot posts, at Level 2 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix with an initial pay of ₹19,900 and medical standard A-1. The indicative notice appeared in Employment News on 21 March 2026, and the online application window ran from 15 May to 14 June 2026. Each candidate could choose one RRB and give preferences for the railway zones under it.
Selection has five stages. CBT-1 is a screening test of 75 questions in 60 minutes covering Mathematics, Mental Ability and General Science, and its marks are not counted in the final panel; candidates go forward RRB-wise at 15 times the vacancies. CBT-2 has two parts in 2 hours 30 minutes: Part-A (100 questions, 90 minutes — Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Basic Science and Engineering) and Part-B (75 questions, 60 minutes, from the candidate’s trade syllabus), which only has to be qualified at 35%. Both CBTs deduct one-third of a mark per wrong answer, and the minimum marks are 40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC-NCL and SC, and 25% for ST.
Candidates are then shortlisted for the Computer Based Aptitude Test at eight times the vacancies on Part-A marks. The CBAT is in English and Hindi with no negative marking, and every test battery must be cleared with a T-score of at least 42. The merit list weighs Part-A marks and the CBAT score 50:50, and is followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination.
The table below is Annexure-B of the CEN, read row by row; the CEN prints some RRB names between their zone rows, so check your RRB’s rows in the document itself. Schedules and call letters are published on the RRB regional websites, now merged at rrb.indianrailways.gov.in.
