संविधान की आठवीं अनुसूची में सम्मिलित भाषाओं में से अभ्यर्थी द्वारा चुनी गई एक भारतीय भाषा; मैट्रिक या समकक्ष स्तर; अंक रैंकिंग में नहीं गिने जाते।

अनेक विषयों पर निबंध; विषय से जुड़े रहना, विचारों को क्रमबद्ध रखना और संक्षेप में लिखना अपेक्षित। प्रभावी और सटीक अभिव्यक्ति पर अंक।

प्रश्नपत्र-II: सामान्य अध्ययन-I — भारतीय विरासत और संस्कृति, विश्व का इतिहास और भूगोल तथा समाज (250 अंक)

• Indian culture — salient aspects of Art Forms, literature and Architecture from ancient to modern times
• Modern Indian history from about the middle of the eighteenth century until the present — significant events, personalities, issues
• The Freedom Struggle — its various stages and important contributors/contributions from different parts of the country

प्रश्नपत्र-VI और VII: वैकल्पिक विषय के प्रश्नपत्र 1 और 2 (प्रत्येक 250 अंक)

खंड II (B) पैरा 2 में सूचीबद्ध 26 विषयों में से एक वैकल्पिक विषय — कृषि, पशुपालन एवं पशु चिकित्सा विज्ञान, नृविज्ञान, वनस्पति विज्ञान, रसायन विज्ञान, सिविल इंजीनियरिंग, वाणिज्य और लेखा, अर्थशास्त्र, इलेक्ट्रिकल इंजीनियरिंग, भूगोल, भूविज्ञान, इतिहास, विधि, प्रबंधन, गणित, मैकेनिकल इंजीनियरिंग, चिकित्सा विज्ञान, दर्शनशास्त्र, भौतिकी, राजनीति विज्ञान और अंतरराष्ट्रीय संबंध, मनोविज्ञान, लोक प्रशासन, समाजशास्त्र, सांख्यिकी, प्राणि विज्ञान, या 23 भाषाओं में से किसी एक का साहित्य। खंड III भाग B में हर विषय का पूरा दो-प्रश्नपत्रीय पाठ्यक्रम है; स्तर मोटे तौर पर ऑनर्स डिग्री का (इंजीनियरिंग, चिकित्सा विज्ञान और विधि में स्नातक स्तर)।

साक्षात्कार/व्यक्तित्व परीक्षण

बोर्ड द्वारा साक्षात्कार, जिसके सामने अभ्यर्थी के करियर का अभिलेख होता है; सामान्य रुचि के विषयों पर प्रश्न — लोक सेवा के करियर के लिए व्यक्तिगत उपयुक्तता का आकलन: बौद्धिक गुण, सामाजिक लक्षण और सामयिक घटनाओं में रुचि। परखे जाने वाले गुण: मानसिक सजगता, ग्रहण की आलोचनात्मक क्षमता, स्पष्ट और तार्किक प्रस्तुति, निर्णय का संतुलन, रुचियों की विविधता और गहराई, सामाजिक समरसता और नेतृत्व क्षमता, बौद्धिक और नैतिक निष्ठा। यह विशेष या सामान्य ज्ञान की परीक्षा नहीं है — वह लिखित प्रश्नपत्र पहले ही ले चुके हैं।
